 Why quitting is difficult

When you stop smoking the body has to re-learn how to function without nicotine in your system and for most regular smokers they might as well learn how to fly. But is that all there is to quitting?

Aside from the reasons above a deeper approach to quitting entails a mandatory change in behavior. Change comes from the inside as they say and when you want to quit you have to have the desire to quit and sometimes that means saying no to things you've lived your whole life saying yes to.

Smokers, especially those who have been smoking for years, have become attached to smoking as part of their everyday life. It may have had a role in their successes and perhaps calmed them down during moments when no one else was around. From a once-in-a-while habit to an actual past time, smoking has become etched at the very core of their identity that quitting would mean abandoning something that made them who they are now.

Change yourself

If behavioral changes are required then it's normal to change yourself. While that may seem like an easy solution it takes more than a good word of advice to stop smoking. But what we advise is to try the following:

Diet and Exercise

There's a reason why diet and exercise is important and it's not just to help trim the waist line.

Aside from the various health benefits of a nice workout, exercising can actually help you quit smoking. Exercising can help lessen the natural weight gain, reduce the urge to smoke, and even decrease withdrawal symptoms and cravings for cigarettes. It can also help distract you from thoughts of smoking as well help you cope with nicotine withdrawal when you first quit smoking.

Meanwhile, a healthy diet can also help improve your chances of quitting by consuming foods that won't add empty calories as well as provide a feel good sensation after eating. Eating healthy will also help your body get back to a state wherein nicotine wasn't one of the main sources of energy and focus.

Personality growth

Changing the way you live your life can help you quit smoking. Instead of hanging out with friends who smoke it's time to see those who actually prefer to spend time away from tobacco. Getting into a good habit, such as a sport or charity work, may also offer the right distractions from smoking as well as reinforce your will to change for the better.
